The Superman helps strengthen your lower back, shoulder and neck muscles. Execute the exercise in a controlled manner to avoid straining muscles.
Online Personal Training Video: Superman
How To Do It
1. Lie flat on your stomach with your arms straight out in front of you and your legs straight behind you. Arms should be shoulder-width apart and legs hip-width for the duration of the exercise.
2. Simultaneously lift your arms and legs at least six inches off the ground, as if you’re Superman flying.
3. Pause for a moment and save the world before relaxing and returning to the original position.
Online Personal Trainer Tips
1. Alternate lifting opposite arms and legs for an easier version of the exercise, if both arms and both legs are too much in the beginning.
2. If you feel undue stress or strain in your lower back or neck, adjust your head position or length of “hold,” or discontinue.
3. Perform the movement in a controlled manner. Despite the exercise’s name, a superhuman effort is counterproductive.
