FAQ
The majority of people are out of shape when they begin TFC’s Online Personal Training. This is why we’ve built in a four-week “video boot camp” escalation phase, during which the physical demand gradually rises. It allows you to become accustomed to exercising again (or for the first time) before we turn you loose on TFC’s normal workouts.
During the escalation phase, you’ll probably experience some soreness or tightness. This is normal and diminishes as you continue. TFC’s video boot camp is designed to accommodate you if you’re out of shape or if you’ve been exercising consistently. Listen to your body and determine your level of exertion from day to day. We’ve found that, if you put forth just a little more effort today than you did yesterday, by the end of the escalation phase you’ll be ready to join TFC’s regular 4-6 month rotation of challenging online personal training workouts.
If you’re extremely overweight it’s imperative you discuss your plans to enroll in The Fitness Camp with your physician. Show your doctor our web site. Listen to what your doctor says. We are more than happy to reply to emails from your doctor if he/she needs more information about our online personal training. If your doctor recommends something other than The Fitness Camp, take it to heart. It’s not for everyone. But if your doctor gives you the go-ahead, then use the escalation phase (TFC’s video boot camp) to build new exercise and nutrition habits. Take control of your health and fitness.
Not during your free trial week. After you become a member, It depends upon where you intend to exercise. If you’re going to take The Fitness Camp to the gym with your iPhone, iPad or Android, you won’t need any equipment. If you’re going to perform our workouts at home, all you’ll need is a pair of dumbbells. But even with your dumbbells investment, your first month (and obviously every month thereafter) at The Fitness Camp will be much less expensive than a personal trainer or boot camp.
During your first month at The Fitness Camp, if you maintain your current eating habits, you can expect to change your body composition by lowering your body fat percentage and gaining muscle. This will usually result in lost inches, too. If you adjust your diet to either a low carb or good carb diet (or, ideally, our own TFC Prime nutrition plan included with your membership), you can also expect to lose some weight.
First-hand experience with 300+ clients at our live boot camp indicates that the first month is primarily a body recomposition period, and losing weight (if that’s your goal) begins during the second month. That’s because most people don’t adjust their eating habits immediately. If you DO adjust your eating habits to support weight loss, then you will lose weight during the first month. That said, by cutting fat and losing inches, you’ll begin looking better and feeling slimmer and stronger by your second or third week at The Fitness Camp.
Todd Whitaker started his sports and fitness career at age 7. A multi-sport prep athlete, he continued playing baseball at the University of Iowa. After moving to the West Coast in the early 1990’s, Todd immersed himself in Southern California’s sunshine and fitness lifestyle, competing in baseball, in-line skating, sprint triathlons and cycling. As his love of outdoor exercise increased, he created The Fitness Camp, an outdoor fitness boot camp combining interval training, Olympic lifting, martial arts, sprinting and sports conditioning. Less than 18 months after its inception, TFC stood as Southern California’s largest single-location fitness boot camp. After becoming a father, Todd created TFC’s Online Personal Training & Video Boot Camp so he could not only reach more people with his methods, but spend more time with his children.
Todd is an NSCA-certified personal trainer, an ACE-certified group fitness instructor, a Crossfit-certified trainer, a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), and a father of two. He has been interviewed by the Orange County Register and co-promoted GI Joe with Paramount Pictures.

Though we have successfully viewed a TFC workout on an iPhone while driving down the freeway with only an “Edge” 3G connection, we don’t recommend it. Because of differences in reception and connection speed from one location to the next, we do recommend downloading TFC’s online personal training workouts to your mobile device before you leave for the gym.
